2016 Ninja 1000 ABS
The Ninja 1000 has the power to move you, matching sports style, response and performance with practical features such as the optional pannier accessory system, electronic rider aids, new assist and slipper clutch, high performance braking and suspensions components.
As a sports or touring platform, the Ninja 1000 has few, if any, rivals. Add the timeless Kawasaki DNA and it is sits proudly in the Ninja group of motorcycles.
Riders can choose from three modes. Mode 1 and 2 prioritise maximum forward acceleration. Mode 3 provides rider reassurance by facilitating smooth riding on slippery surfaces. Riders may also elect to turn the system off.
Conditions are confirmed every 5 milliseconds, and control via ignition timing enables extremely quick reaction.
Sporty instrument panel
Sporty instrument panel features a large analogue tachometer complemented by a multi-function LCD screen.
The KTRC and power modes are shown on the panel and controlled from a switch on the left grip.
With the airbox nestled between the frame beams, intake air can be affected by engine heat. The Cool Air system routes cool air to the airbox from ducts at the front of the side fairings, minimising performance loss due to heated intake air.
Race-inspired clutch technology offers both a back-torque limiting function as well as a much lighter feel at the lever.
Assist & Slipper Clutch was developed based on feedback from racing activities. The clutch uses two types of cams (an assist cam and a slipper cam), offering two new functions not available on the standard clutch of the previous model
Assist and Slipper Clutch was developed based on feedback from racing activities. The clutch uses two types of cams (an assist cam and a slipper cam), offering two new functions not available on the standard clutch of the previous model. When the engine is operating at normal rpm the assist cam functions as a self-servo mechanism, pulling the clutch hub and operating plate together to compress the clutch plates. This allows the total clutch spring load to be reduced, resulting in a lighter clutch lever pull when operating the clutch. Fewer (3, vs 5 on the previous model) clutch springs translate to a 30% lighter clutch lever feel.
The exhaust system features a 4-into-2-pre-chamber-into-2 layout. Silencer endcaps create a quad style image. The endcap design with large exhaust exits add to the sporty look of the Ninja 1000.
Joint pipes linking the exhaust headers contribute to increased feeling and response at all rpm.
Main and pre-catalysers ensure the emissions are clean.
41mm inverted front forks
The direct handling of the Ninja 1000 can be largely attributed to the suspension settings. The bike responds quickly to rider input and soaks up bumps and ruts.
41mm inverted front forks feature stepless compression and rebound damping and spring preloas adjustability.
The rear shock features rebound and preload adjustably. Load the bike up with a pillion and luggage and then easily adjust the rear suspesion via the remote adjuster.
The rear shock runs a 95 N/mm standard spring rate for responsive handling.
Tokico monobloc calipers
The Ninja 1000 features Tokico monobloc calipers. Achieving the ideal braking characteristics required a redefinition of what Kawasaki’s “ideal” braking was to be. Where the previous model offered very linear brake power application, the brakes on the Ninja 1000 have a firm initial touch, followed by a controlled increase in brake force.

Windscreen has three available positions spanning approximately 20° and ranging from sporty to maximum wind protection, to suit rider preference.
Adjustment can be done by hand (no tools required) by depressing the release button below the instrument panel.
