2016 KX250F

The KX250F is perhaps the most successful motocross racer in the extremely competitive 4-stroke 250cc class. It has a history of winning, including dual championships in 2011, and the 250MX championship in 2012. Adding to its highly acclaimed engine and chassis performance, numerous industry firsts and advanced technology, it was revised in 2015, including then new adjustable ergonomics and this makes the 2016 model the best KX250F ever.

Separate Function Front Fork

Function divided:

Right: Spring
Left: Damping Assembly
Large diameter 48mm inner tubes contribute to great fork rigidity and a planted feel from the front wheel. Ultra low friction contributes to extremely smooth action. Lightweight construction. Preload adjuster equipped

Used for the firast time on a mass production motocrosser on the 2011 KX250F, the SFF locates its damping assembly in the left fork tube and a spring in the right. 48mm diameter fork tubes and works style internal construction contribute to a planted feel at the front, increased damping perfomrance and ride comfort, greater bottoming resistance and increased stability when on the brakes or when landing jumps. In 2015 the KX250F was revised in the valve settings for improved damping, high speed handling and ride stability.

The configuration offers both smooth action and firm damping performance – a combination difficlt to achieve with a conventional fork. With only one spring, the friction between the spring and inner tube is greatly reduced (approximately 25% less than cenventioanal set-ups), resulting in extremely smoothaction through the fork stroke. Being able to use larger damper pistons enables smoother action and makes firmer damping performance possible.

Race Ready rear suspension

New UniTrak rear suspension. The rear shock features dual compression adjustability, allowing high-speed and low-speed damping to be tuned separately. A self lubricating alumite coating on the tank cylinder helps prevent wear adbrasion, and reduces friction for smoother suspension action.

Revised valve settings result in stronger damping. The firmer settingsresult in improved high speed handling, greater ride stability and improved performance when landing jumps. The Uni-Trak suspension system mounts the suspension arm below the swingarm, allowing a longer rear suspension stroke. The longer stroke in turn allows more precise rear suspension tuning.

The 2016 KX250F rear suspension features a Lime Green spring and Candy Lime Green Type II anodized adjusters.

Launch control

The KX250F features a launch control system similar to that on our factory racers. With the simple press of a button, riders can activate a separate engine map designed to ensure efficient race starts in slippery conditions. The Launch Control Mode map retards ignotion timing, allowing tyres to gain grip in low traction situations.

Adjustable ECU

Lightweight ECU has been built to withstand the rigors of motocross racing. The ECU contains 3 engine maps (plus a 4th for Launch Control Mode).

Settings for the 3 maps can be reprogrammed with the optional KX FI Calibration Kit. The KX FI Calibration Kit is the same kit used by Kawasaki’s works teams in Europe and the U.S. The kit enables expert riders to adjust engine characteristics (by rewriting actual data maps) to suit their preference, record riding data, and analyse their riding data to further fine-tune their settings.

Dual Injectors

The downstream injector is used to ensure smooth instant response while the upstream injector is chanrged with providing power. As RPM and throttle postion increase, primary operation switches from the downstream injector to the upstream injector.

Both fuel injection are fine atomising injectors with 4 holes, dispersing spray particles with a droplet size of 120 µm from the upstream injector and 75 µm fro the downstream injector. The downstream injector’s finer droplet size and wider spray angle contribute to stronger low-mid range power feeling, improved response and quicker accesleration.

Fuel injection

The KX250F fuel injection system features dual injectors: an injector downstream of the throttle valve and a second, upstream injector located close to the airbox.

Wide intake porting and a straight intake tract allow air to flow directly from the air cleaner box to the combustion chamber. The arrangement contributes to strong high RPM performance.

Factory Style Tuning

Tuned to best suit race-experienced riders, the 249cm3 liquid cooled, 4-stroke single’s wide powerband focuses on high RPM perofrmance and extends way into the over-rev. Highly acclaimded for the high output and smoth power delivery; thanks to the world’s first dual injection for motocrossers, a direct flow intake, and race inspired tuning and parts like the high performance bridged box bottom piston, and Launch Control Mode, after receving minor upgrades for increase performance and durablity in 2015, the 2016 KX250F has minor styling changes for the engine inspection plugs, top fork caps, forks and rear shock adjusters and the rear shock spring.

Adjustable footpeg

Adjustable footpeg brackets enable riders to lower their footpeg position 5 mm.

In the lower position, Centre of Gravity is lowered as is the rider’s point of view, adding to both physical and psychological stability.

Rear Facing Air Intakes

NEW Addition of two rear intakes (holes added under the rear of the seat) allow air to enter the engine more easily, contributing to improved response.

New Swingarm

Ridigity of the swingarm was also revised. The cast front portion is taller with thinner walls, and the wall thickness of the spars was idealised, with thinner side walls and thicker top/bottom walls. The new construction saves approximately 220 g. The alloy swingarm uses a cast front section, tapered hydroformed spars and forged chain adjusters.

Slim aluminium perimter frame

The KX250F’s slim aluminium perimter frame is a lightweight construction composed of forged, extruded and cast parts. The frame and minimalist bodywork, based around rider ergonomics, offer a slim rider interface and racer-friendly ergonomics.

The frame is narrow across the main pipes, contributing to a slim package with great ergonomics that adjust to suit a variety of rider builds and abilities. The layout is all put together to contribute to rider control.

Progressive throttle link

Lightweight 43 mm diameter throttle body uses two shafts joined by a progressive link to give sharp response and an excellent feel for the power feeling. The throttle body makes use of the progressive throttle link to deliver airflow in the same way as would a FCR carburettor. Using linked shafts, the throttle body opens more quickly delivering a sharp response.

The ECU setting have changed on the KX250F to match the injector and rotor changes, contributing to the increased power feeling and engine response, and low-mid rpm performances.

Adjustable handlebar

A choice of four positions allows the rider to tailor their riding position.

Upper triple clamp with two sets of handle mounts offers riders the choice of four positons: 25mm forward, 15mm forward, Standard and 10mm Back

Oversized disc brake

Larger oversized 270mm front disc (up from 252mm) contributes to increased braking power and control.

The radical design front and rear petal discs offer strong braking performance, excellent competitive edge with high quality factory looks.
